Richard
I’m Richard Peterson, a photographer based in Madrid.
Most photographs show what the world looks like.
My work is interested in how it feels to live inside it.
I photograph life as it unfolds.
Real moments, real places, real people. Not to document events, but to observe the quiet emotional states that exist inside ordinary life.
People move through the world constantly. Travelling, waiting, thinking, passing through moments that feel ordinary while they happen, yet quietly shape how we remember our lives.
I’m drawn to those in-between moments. The pauses, the distance inside crowds, the brief connections between strangers, the feeling of being somewhere while your mind is somewhere else.
Over time, this has become a long-term body of work about presence, time and shared human experience.
Nothing dramatic has to happen for a moment to matter.
My first photobook, Chronolight, brings together ten years of images into a single narrative about time, transformation and the human experience.
